Vocal Pacing: How to Train Your Voice for Better Speeches

On camera, most people speed up. Nerves push the pace until syllables get swallowed, phrases slur and you lose authority.

Speaking too slowly bores an audience. A steady, natural cadence sits between the two.

3 hacks to calibrate your speaking cadence

1. Use the intentional pause

Do not fear silence. A pause before and after a key idea builds suspense and gives your audience time to absorb it.

2. Breathe from the diaphragm

Slow, deep breaths from the diaphragm relax your voice and support steadier delivery.

3. Let the prompter follow you

A traditional teleprompter scrolls at a preset speed, so you end up chasing the text. That pressure makes a natural pace hard.

VocalScroll recognizes your speech on your device with WebAssembly. In Voice mode the script scrolls as you speak. If you pause to land a point, the prompter pauses. If you speed up, the text keeps up.

To practice a target pace, switch to Paced mode and set the speed in words a minute. The script scrolls at that rate, and you read to it.
