Quick Support & Frequently Asked Questions
This page covers the problems people hit most often: microphone permissions, camera setup and scroll drift.
1. Quick Start Checklist
Before a recording session, run through these four steps:
- Check the address: Open VocalScroll in Chrome, Edge or Safari. The address should begin with
https://. Browsers block the microphone and camera on plainhttp://pages. - Paste your script: Paste or write your text in the editor. It saves in this browser as you type.
- Choose a scroll mode: Select Voice (the text follows your voice) or Paced (the text scrolls at a steady speed in words a minute).
- Turn on the camera: Switch on Camera in the Studio's Inspector, allow access when your browser asks, then choose Behind text or Window under Camera view.
2. Microphone problems
If VocalScroll cannot hear you or the microphone level bar stays flat, check this table:
| Issue | Potential Cause | How to Fix It |
|---|---|---|
| Level bar is flat | Wrong microphone is selected. | Speak naturally, open the Microphone list under Audio in the Studio (or in Settings, Camera and devices), and select your active hardware microphone. |
| Browser blocks microphone | Permission was denied in the prompt. | Click the little Lock Icon on the left side of your browser's URL address bar, toggle "Microphone" to Allow, and reload the page. |
| "Microphone locked" error | Another application is using the mic. | Close background calling software (Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, or Discord) that might be locking your recording hardware. |
| macOS System Block | OS-level security blocks browser. | Open your mac's System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone and ensure your web browser is toggled on. |
3. Scroll drift
If the text feels slow to follow you or the highlight lags behind your words, try these:
- Enunciate consonants: Speak clearly, especially consonants like s, f and t. That helps the on-device recognizer match your words.
- Use line breaks: Break long paragraphs into single-sentence lines. They are easier to read at a glance and easier for the tracker to follow.
- Try Paced mode: If tracking still struggles, switch to Paced and set Paced reading speed in Settings, Reading, to match how fast you read.
4. Where do my takes go?
VocalScroll does not upload your recordings. Video and audio takes are recorded and saved on your device, in Takes, the third tab in the top bar (or bottom dock on a phone).
- Exporting: Open a take in Takes, go to the Export tab, and save the original file or a mastered version to your device's Downloads folder.
- Deleting: Choose Delete this take on an open take, or Delete all takes in the More take actions menu to remove every take from this browser.
- Private windows: In a private or incognito window, your scripts and takes are wiped when you close it.
