Voice Pacing and Calibration: Better Speech Tracking

When your voice and the scrolling text stay in sync, you sound relaxed and natural on camera.

VocalScroll runs voice recognition on your device, so there is no network round trip and the words highlight as you say them. Room acoustics, your pacing and your microphone all affect how well the engine hears you. This guide covers each one.

1. What happens when you pause

If you pause to stress a point, cough or take a sip of water, Voice mode pauses too. The text holds its place until you speak again, then picks up from the words it hears.

To keep the text moving without your voice, switch to Paced mode. It scrolls at a steady speed instead of following you. You can also write a pause into the script on its own line, as [pause] or [pause 2s].

2. Choosing your paced speed

In Paced mode the prompter scrolls at the speed you set with the Paced reading speed slider in Settings, in words a minute. The Rundown times follow it. Match the speed to your natural pace so you can read along comfortably.

  • Slow or deliberate speakers: below 130 words a minute.
  • Most people reading aloud: 130 to 170 words a minute. The default is 150.
  • Fast or high-energy reviews: above 170 words a minute.

3. Acoustic tips

Three changes help the voice model hear you clearly:

  1. Reduce ambient noise: Turn off desktop fans, AC units and loud computer equipment near your desk. Constant hums can mask quiet sounds.
  2. Mind your mic distance: Place your microphone about 6 to 8 inches from your mouth, angled slightly off-centre (about 45 degrees), so you don't blow air into the capsule on plosive letters like p, b or t.
  3. Check the level bar: Speak naturally and watch the microphone level bar under Audio in the Studio's Inspector. If it stays flat, check your microphone volume in your system settings and confirm the right mic is selected.
