How to Install VocalScroll PWA on iPhone, Android, and Desktop PC

VocalScroll is a Progressive Web App (PWA). You can install it on your home screen or desktop and run it in its own window, without the address bar. It installs from your browser, so nothing comes from an app store.

Once it has loaded, the installed app opens without a connection. The speech model for a language downloads the first time you use that language, so a new language needs a connection once.

1. iOS installation (iPhone and iPad)

iPhone and iPad have no install button or banner, so you add VocalScroll to the Home Screen by hand. The steps are the same in Safari, and in Chrome, Firefox and Edge on iOS 16.4 or later:

  1. Open vocalscroll.com in your browser.
  2. Tap the Share button, the square with an arrow pointing up. On an iPhone it is in the bottom bar, on an iPad at the top, and in newer versions of iOS it can sit under the ••• menu.
  3. Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen.
  4. Tap Add. VocalScroll then opens from your Home Screen like an app.

The browser inside Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and similar apps cannot add a page to the Home Screen. Copy the link and open it in Safari first, then follow the steps above.

A Home Screen app keeps its own storage, separate from Safari, so install it before you build up scripts and takes. To bring scripts across from Safari, open Settings, Storage and library in Safari, choose Export everything, then use Import in Scripts on the .txt files from the zip. Safari can clear a site's saved data after seven days of Safari use without a visit; a Home Screen app counts its days on its own.

2. Android installation

  1. Open vocalscroll.com in Chrome or Samsung Internet.
  2. Tap the three dots menu and choose Install app or Add to Home screen.
  3. Tap Install to confirm. VocalScroll appears in your app drawer.

The Install app button in Settings, About and Help opens the browser's install prompt when it has one, and these steps when it does not.

3. Desktop installation (PC, Mac and Linux)

  1. Open Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge and go to vocalscroll.com.
  2. Click the install icon (a monitor with a down arrow) at the right end of the address bar, or open the browser menu and choose Install VocalScroll.
  3. Click Install in the confirmation popup.
  4. VocalScroll opens in its own window.

In Safari 17 or later on a Mac, choose File > Add to Dock.

A browser without an install option can still open VocalScroll in a tab.
