Takes: How to Export & Remaster Your Video
Takes is where VocalScroll keeps your recordings so you can preview, manage and remaster them. This guide covers where the files are stored and how to export a video with mastered audio.
1. Where takes are stored
VocalScroll does not send your recordings to a server. When you record, it writes the file into your browser's private file storage (OPFS) and keeps a small index in IndexedDB. Older Safari versions keep the recording in IndexedDB instead.
- Your recordings live in browser storage that belongs to the
vocalscroll.comorigin and stay on your device until you delete them. - You need no account, and nothing is uploaded.
2. Playback vocal remastering
When you play a take, the preview player runs its audio through the Voice enhancer, a Web Audio channel strip. Pick one of six presets on the take's Voice tab:
- Natural: Your voice as it is, with levels evened out and the roughest breaths and S sounds softened.
- Studio: Clean and bright. Less hiss, echo and boxiness, more presence. The default.
- Podcast: Warm, close and even in level.
- Broadcast: Full low end and steady dynamics.
- Clear: The strongest cleanup, for noisy or echoey rooms and laptop or phone microphones.
- Original: Plays back the recording exactly as captured.
The Voice cleanup switch below the presets removes background noise and echo, softens breaths and harsh S sounds, and evens out your level. It runs on your device and does not apply to Original.
3. How to export and download your video
- Open Takes.
- Select your recording.
- On the Voice tab, choose your preferred preset (for example Studio).
- Open the Export tab and leave Mastered voice on and press Export video. VocalScroll renders the voice on your device, then encodes an MP4 with it. Keep the tab open while it works, then save the finished file. Mastered video is limited to 15 minutes; for a longer take, turn Mastered voice off.
For audio only, press Export audio (a WAV). It renders faster than real time.
Once you have exported what you need, free up space with Delete all takes in the More take actions menu on the Takes page.
