Troubleshooting Voice Tracking

VocalScroll uses on-device WebAssembly speech recognition to match what you say to your script and scroll the prompter. In a noisy room, tracking may need some help. This checklist covers the usual causes.

Voice tracking troubleshooting checklist

1. Prompter stalls and fails to scroll

  • Microphone level: Your input gain may be too low. Raise it in your system settings until your voice comes through clearly, and check that Audio in the Studio's Inspector shows the microphone you expect.
  • Background noise: Computer fans and AC hum can drown out your voice. Move the microphone closer to your mouth or cut the noise at its source.

2. Prompter scrolls on its own during silences

  • Room echo: In an untreated room, echo and other low-level sounds can trigger the prompter. Reduce the echo where you can, and keep the microphone close to your mouth.

3. Text scrolls past my actual line

  • Re-sync with a section: Start a line with # to split your script into numbered sections. If the prompter loses your place, jump back to the right section from the Rundown or the Sections menu.

If it still misbehaves, sit or stand at a comfortable distance from your microphone and try again.
